PROPOSED CRITERIA FOR MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES

 

Student Member, SMART (SSMART)

Students currently undergoing ANY course of study in a University, Polytechnic, monotechnic, College of Education or other tertiary/Institutions of Higher learning recognized by the Society.

Criteria:

• Academic Enrollment: Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or early-stage graduate student in a field of study.

• Research Interest: Demonstrates interest in multidisciplinary research through coursework, projects, or extracurricular activities.

• Engagement: Participation in academic or research-related activities, such as student organizations, research clubs, or seminars.

• Academic Standing: Maintains good academic standing in their institution.

• Recommendation: Endorsed by a faculty member or academic advisor who can attest to the student’s potential and engagement in the field.

• Application Fee: #5,000 or $10

 

Graduate Student Member, SMART (GSMART)

Criteria:

• Academic Focus: Currently enrolled in a graduate program with a focus on multidisciplinary research or related fields.

• Research Involvement: Active involvement in research projects, coursework, or thesis work that aligns with multidisciplinary research interests.

• Academic Qualifications:

Currently enrolled in a graduate program (Master's or PhD) in a relevant field of study.

Alternatively, a recent graduate who has not yet commenced graduate studies but has indicated interest in commencing it may also apply.

• Professional Development: Demonstrates a commitment to developing skills and knowledge in the field, such as attending relevant seminars, workshops, or conferences.

• Institutional Affiliation: Enrolled in an accredited institution and maintaining good academic standing.

• Recommendation: Supported by a faculty advisor or mentor who can vouch for the student’s research interests and potential.

• Application Fee: #10,000 or $15

 

Member, SMART (MSMART)

Criteria:

• Research Experience: Demonstrated research experience in multidisciplinary areas, with a record of publications or project work.

• Active Engagement: Actively involved in the organization’s activities, such as attending meetings, participating in conferences, or contributing to committees.

• Academic Qualifications:

Must hold a Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent in a relevant field (e.g., Engineering, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Social Sciences, etc.) with at least 2 years of experience in a research specialization or multidisciplinary research.

• Professional Development: Commitment to ongoing professional development and engagement in relevant research communities.

• Experience: Typically has a minimum of 2 years of experience in a research specialization or multidisciplinary research.

• Peer Recommendation: Endorsed by at least one current member or professional in the field.

• Application Fee: #25,000 or $22

 

Senior Member, SMART (SMMART)

Criteria:

• Professional Accomplishments: Proven record of impactful research and publication(s) in multidisciplinary fields, with a strong portfolio of completed project(s).

• Contributions to the Field: Demonstrated involvement in advancing the field through contributions to significant research project(s), collaboration(s), or innovative solution(s).

• Academic Qualifications:

Must hold a PhD, Master's degree, or equivalent in a relevant field (e.g., Engineering, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Social Sciences, etc.).

• Experience: Must have at least 5 years of experience in specialized or multidisciplinary research and have shown leadership or mentorship in their area of expertise.

• Professional Development: Must be actively engaged in continuing professional development and maintaining relevant skills and knowledge.

• Peer Endorsement: Supported by endorsements from at least one existing Senior Member or Fellow of the organization or equivalent of any other reputable academic or research organization.

• Induction Fee: Senior Members are required to pay an induction fee of  #250,000 or $150 upon approval for this category of Membership.

 

Fellow, SMART (FSMART)

This is the highest category of the research organization’s award, and it is bestowed on top highly influential individuals in recognition of their exceptional contribution to a research specialization, especially in multidisciplinary research

Criteria:

• Outstanding Achievements: Must have demonstrated exceptional contributions to a research specialization or multidisciplinary research (This may include, though not limited to, high-impact publication, groundbreaking project/research, or highly influential leadership in research initiatives).

• Leadership and Service: Must have held leadership roles or made substantial contributions to the advancement of the organization or field, such as serving on relevant committees or organizing conferences.

• Academic Qualifications:

Must hold an advanced degree such as a PhD in a relevant field (e.g., Engineering, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Social Sciences, etc.).

Alternatively, a Master's degree with exceptional achievements and a significant multidisciplinary research experience may be considered.

• Recognition: Must have received recognition or award from a reputable organization(s) or institution(s) for significant contributions to academic program or research excellence.

• Experience: Must have at least 7 years of experience in specialized or multidisciplinary research and have shown a remarkable level of professional and academic leadership.

• Peer Endorsement: Must be supported by endorsements from at least two existing Fellows or senior members of the organization or their equivalent in any other reputable academic or research organizations.

• Induction Fee: Fellows are required to pay an induction fee pay an induction fee of  #500,000 or $350 upon approval for this category of Membership.  Note that this category is only recommended to invited researchers whose Resumes or CVs have been deemed suitable.
